Innovation Grant
The FOPBGS Society in line with our Mission
to support the Penang Ecological Environment is announcing the setting up of a
Supplementary Grant called the FOPBGS RIE Awards. The purpose is to encourage
Research, Innovation and Education, in the Penang State.
Objective:
a) To encourage Research and Learning to be
carried out in the Penang State to increase local knowledge content and enhance
the overall capacity of the Environs.
b) To empower the younger generation to get
involved and contribute to the community and allow them an opportunity to
enhance and demonstrate their skills.
c) To support greater collaboration with
State institutes of learning, both public and private.
d) To fulfil some of the key
objectives, FOPBGS objectives.
Scope:
Open to all Malaysians residing in the State
of Penang, involved in tertiary or college education as well as members of the
Public, who have proven expertise in specific areas, related to the Flora and
Fauna in the Conservation of the Environment.
Zone of Coverage:
All
the grants are for RIE work to be done in the Penang Botanic Gardens boundary proper.
Innovation/Invention Grant:
Total amount is RM2,500 for a duration of 6
to 12 months
To be disbursed in phases.
For Field
Application by an invention, in solving
an identified problem, in any one of the following areas:
Botany
Ethno Botany
Plant/ANimal Biology
Taxonomy
Forestry
Environmental Sciences
Ecology
Conservation Engineering
Eco-tourism
Human/Animal Disturbances
Horticulture/Landscaping
Wildlife Conservation
Water Conservation
Ornithology/Avifauna
Ethno Botany

*The invention needs to solve a current problem being
faced by the Environment, (eg. Vandalism)
Open to
Students of Upper secondary School, Polytechnics or Trade schools (TVET)
Private colleges or institution, DIY Clubs or Organizations or competently
skilled individuals.
Copyrights and Intellectual property rights
will be shared on a 60:40 Basis with the Society.
Grant covers: Materials, consumables and
proto-type testing of product or item.
Area: The Penang Botanic Gardens proper and
surrounding Forest Reserves area.
Team
Size: 5 pax maximum. Minimum age: 18 years
Disbursement Phases/Milestones: Proposal
> Investigative (Problem Identification) (10%) > Evaluate solutions via
design concepts (20%) > Develop & construct Prototype (55%) > Test
prototype (10%) > Present working prototype solution (5%).
RnD grant DOES NOT cover: Transport, Meals, accommodation, seminars &
conferences, subscriptions, books, publications, software, clothes or hired
labour.
